Be Pasty Please.

August 2, 2010

Iran has gotten a lot of press about their police-enforced dress codes this summer.  What, you might ask, is left to rule on when all but women’s faces are covered in approved clothing styles and makeup is banned.  Ah, yes, of course.  Skin.

“The public expects us to act firmly and swiftly if we see any social misbehavior by women, and men, who defy our Islamic values. In some areas of north Tehran we can see many suntanned women and young girls who look like walking mannequins. We are not going to tolerate this situation and will first warn those found in this manner and then arrest and imprison them.” said Brig Hossien Sajedinia, Tehran’s police chief.

I agree.  Live, walking mannequins would be the most socially unsettling sight I could imagine.  Followed by a jail cell full of mannequins being the second most disturbing sight.  …er, wait.  Maybe that’s not what he meant…
