State Imposed Dress Codes

May 24, 2010

Summer is coming, and with warmer weather often comes the reminder, and the insistence on, modest dress codes.  …particularly if you live in a State with a strict government-imposed dress code.

Iran’s Interior Minister Mostafa Mohammad Najjar announced that Iran will crack down on people who “violate the norms” this summer:

“As the president has ordered and the people have demanded, police will take firm action against those who break the norms…”

This includes women covering their hair and all other body parts except for face, hands, and feet, and also forbids state-employees from wearing neck ties.

…does it really qualify as a “norm” if you have to insist on it so regularly and  forcefully?!?
